    Help! Sending money to Thailand

    My family wants to send me some money here in Thailand and i suggested Traveler's checks. They wanted to know if intl. money order or cashier's check would work. I have a bank acct. here but i don't know anything about MO or cashier's check. Don't want to use Western Union or transfer to my acct. with swift code, etc. Any suggestions...

    If you pay for my flights and travel expenses i will bring the cash to Thailand for you and only charge 5% commission on the money i courier for you.
    Or other wise as above whats wrong with western union.

    Someone said Western Union was expensive??? Thought Traveler's check by post would be cheaper and if they were lost in mail they could be replaced. Transferring money from acct. in US to Thailand by wire transfer costs $30

    hhhmmm I guess the transfer fee is significant if the amount of money is minimal but you could always have the sender pay the transfer fee (you cheap farang you)

    I assume there will also be a cost/fee for providing travelers cheques by the purchaser of those cheques.

    Any money over THB50,000 transferred into an account here from overseas is checked by the authorities and an explanation is required as to who the sender was. Over THB700,000 and both parties are investigated. This is by the money laundering people.

    Best way, if you are talking about a large sum, is Travellers Cheques as they can be cashed one at time as you need money for a beer or the sick buffalo.
