First thing I should mention is I'm a hack. Shot a 104 from the white tees. Got a chance to play at this course this past week. Booked everything directly through the club as they have a discount through the end of June for the 2012 golf festival. Green fee was 800 baht off the regular 1600 baht price. Total was 2600 for everything including club rental, cart and caddie. They do have shuttle service to and from hotel for 800 baht. You could arrange your own transportation, but be sure to book a round trip.

Thinking it would be less crowded in the midday heat, booked tee time at 10am. Later informed by my caddie that mornings and late afternoons are the best times when it is least busy. Something to do with the way Thais have a preference to work in the morning and late afternoons and play golf in the middle. Leaving us tourists to play what would normally be peak times in the US. Lots of Japanese and Korean golf tourists, but the majority being Thai golfers.

The course itself is beautiful and incredibly well maintained. Challenging, but not overly difficult for a beginner like me. Definitely have to control you misses, instead of trying to hit it as far as you can. Though you can walk with a push cart. I think caddies are required as they control the pace of play. The ones we had for myself and playing partner were excellent. They knew their yardages and distances very well. Most of the time I would concur with how she read the greens. She was cute too. She told me she liked her job, but hated how much gossip all the caddies talked. Tipped her 200 baht.

Huge clubhouse still going through some renovations. I thought the lockers, showers and service were excellent. Bar and restaurant were closed but plenty of little shaded rest spots on the course to buy a Singha or two. The club offers night golf which sounds interesting. But if i can squeeze in another round or two am thinking to try Mae Jo or Ithanon golf clubs as they are the closest distancewise to Chiang Mai central where i am staying.

Will be in Bangkok next week and plan to try a course or two out there.

British citizen Chow Hok Kuen was arrested at a hotel in Thailand yesterday following a tip-off.

Followers of black magic believe the unborn babies — covered in gold leaf — bring good luck.

Kuen had bought them for £4,040 just days before being arrested at a hotel in capital Bangkok.

They had been packed in to luggage and were about to be smuggled to Taiwan where he hoped to make a sizeable profit.

Cops said the 28-year-old, of Taiwanese descent, planned to sell them for up to £24,200.

The origin of the foetuses is not known.

Colonel Wiwat Kamchamnan, of Bangkok police, said: “He said he planned to sell the foetuses to clients who believe they will make them lucky and rich.”

He was held in Chinatown and faces one year in prison and a £40 fine after buying them from a Taiwanese man.

In Thailand, black magic followers perform a ritual known as “Kuman Thong” in which dead foetuses are surgically removed from their mothers’ wombs before being roasted and covered with lacquer to preserve them.

The Foreign Office said it was looking into the case.
Thai police arrest man with babies' bodies for black magic
Thai police arrest man with babies' bodies for black magic - chicagotribune.com

Thai police arrested a British citizen on Friday after the bodies of six babies thought to have been used in a black magic ritual were found stuffed into travel bags in a Bangkok hotel room.

Chow Hok Kuen, 28, a British citizen born in Hong Kong of Taiwanese parents, was arrested in Bangkok's Chinatown and was being held for possession of human remains, police said.

Authorities believe he was trying to smuggle the corpses to Taiwan.

"The bodies are of children between the ages of two and seven months. Some were found covered in gold leaf," Wiwat Kumchumnan, sub-division chief of the police's Children and Women Protection unit, told Reuters.

It was not clear where the bodies came from.

Kuen was staying at a hotel in Khao San Road, Bangkok's backpacker area, but the bodies were found in a separate hotel.

Police had received a tip-off that infant corpses were being offered to wealthy clients through a website advertising black magic services.

The corpses were bought from a Taiwanese national for 200,000 baht ($6,400) and could have been sold for six times that amount in Taiwan, police said.

Black magic rituals are still practiced in Thailand, where street-side fortune tellers offer ceremonies to reverse bad luck.

Kuen faces one year in prison and a 2,000 baht fine if he is found guilty.

($1 = 31.4400 baht)
THAILAND: -- According to the Danish newspaper, Politiken, Danish Motorcycle gangs, Hells Angels and Bandidos, are getting more visible in Thailand, but now a cooperation between the Danish and the Thai police is set to keep a close eye on the bikers, who are known for a wide variety of criminal activities in Denmark.

“The motorcycle gangs can forget setting up Thailand as a base for their criminal activities. In both Denmark and Thailand there is a strong will to fight the kind of crimes these gangs are known for. We are now sharing information and we are willing to assist the Thai police in specific cases as well,” says Kim Kliver, Head of the National investigations center of the Danish Police.

The Danish police are very much aware of the fact that Thailand could be seen as the perfect place to hide money as well as supplying the bikers with drugs and women for prostitution.

“Women from Asia are the largest group of women being trafficked to Denmark, and because of that we will be very much on our toes to see if the bikers are showing interest of getting in to that business as well,” says Kim Kliver.
According to the Danish paper, the Danish bikers are mostly operating in Thailand and Pattaya.

BANGKOK: -- The computerised system for conducting the Thai census crashed nationwide yesterday, and the authorities were trying to fix it, a senior...

BANGKOK: -- The computerised system for conducting the Thai census crashed nationwide yesterday, and the authorities were trying to fix it, a senior official at the Department of Provincial Administration said.

Registration Office director Thawatchai Thammarak pointed out that the system had been in use for nine years, which was beyond the normal usage of six years. The malfunction left district offices unable to issue national ID cards or house registrations, so it also affected passport issuance by the Foreign Ministry's Department of Consular Affairs, he said.

The office pulled information from a backup database at the Registration Office's Service Area 1 Office (Wang Chai Ya) to use instead of the database at the Registration Office's Service Area 2 (Khlong 9 Lam Lukka). The system should be back to normal today, he said. The Registration Office was discussing other solutions in case this wasn't successful, he said.

Thawatchai admitted problems with the computerised system for the Thai census had persisted for three or four years and that, due to a previous controversy over database procurement, the department couldn't find new computers purchased for it and had simply maintained its ageing system. He said they couldn't find parts for maintenance, while procurement of new tools was stuck in red tape and was still under consideration by the Office of the Attorney General.

The director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Administration and Registration Division, Supapong Kritsanapan, said the city, after getting notification from the Department of Provincial Administration that the system was down, issued a memo to all 50 district offices to inform the public that related work was suspended. As it wasn't sure when the system would be back to normal, he urged the public to call their district office to check whether the system was back before leaving home.
BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has found three road locations at risk of subsidence - at Wireless Road, Phayathai Road and Rama I Road - while the BMA Public Works Department will early next month begin to remove thousands of unauthorised telephone booths.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Theerachon Manomaipiboon said the BMA Public Works Department and district offices had surveyed 157 locations that recently underwent road repair in 36 districts. At 100 of these locations the PWD used ground penetrating radar (GPR) to scan for abnormalities beneath road surfaces. The inspection was expected to be completed this May, when the city will formulate a long-term road repair plan.

So far they have found three risky spots - a section of Wireless Road in front of Ayudhaya Bank; Phayathai Road in front of Pathumwan Princess Hotel; and Rama I Road near the BTS National Stadium Station's third foundation post, he said. Officials will dig to further assess the subsidence risk.

The BMA Traffic and Transportation Department, the BMA Public Works Department and the district offices will together plan the road survey and the installation of public warning signs. They will also review the road/overpass building/repair dates to allow officials to estimate usage time and maintenance of roads and overpasses. He said that they would also work with infrastructure offices to maintain sewers and footpaths. He urged the public to alert city officials via the hotline 1555 if they spot cracks on concrete-paved roads or sinkholes in road surfaces.

Theerachon said there were 31,395 phone booths in Bangkok - including 325 authorised booths belonged to CAT Telecom, 5,828 True Corporation booths (3,227 authorised booths and 2,601 unauthorised booths), and 14,049 TOT booths (not yet sorted).

There were 13,361 booths belonging to six companies with TOT concessions - of these 2,533 were already removed. He said the BMA Public Works Department and agencies would meet on May 21 to survey phone booths and remove illegal ones. The removal would begin in early June and should be complete by August 12 - or December 5 as the latest.

I have been to BKK and all of it were flights during daytime (landed at 11.00 BKK time). I always have to endure very long immigration counter que. The fastest I had to go through this line was 90 minutes. I asked and searched around the internet and I noticed some even went through this line no longer than 5 minutes. I was told that it was all down to how many planes/flights landed on the day/night.

Is there a way i can find information on how many flights/planes will land to the airport in specific dates so I know what to expect in my next flight (which is on 27th May, Sunday, landed around 8.10-8.30pm). Thanks

For those of you who would be interested in grabbing a beer or something while I am in BKK, post here and I'll try to work something out.

I will be in BKK from May 31st-June 24th, then 4 days at Phi Phi and one more night in BKK on the 29th (But I may be busy then). Also, not sure if I'll be staying longer yet...

Anyway, I'll just post a bit about myself. I'm a young (early-mid 20's), 191cm tall, 77kg male who likes music, sports, and banging women...pretty much the same shit every other guy likes.

I'm not super rich or anything but I've done a lot of research on BKK and there isn't anywhere I've found that's out of my price range, so essentially...I am pretty much down for anything.

The only catch is I might end up getting stuck bringing one of my thai girlfriends with me...I should of never joined a thai dating site -_-''

I know, I'm stupid.

Oh, and if we meet then you'll be immortalized in the amazing trip report I'll be typing up for this forum as well as another forum that I use. :P

Happy hunting fellows.

Asiatique the Riverfront, opened on 27th Apr 2012, a massive new shopping and lifestyle complex beside Bangkok's Chao Phraya river, is set to become one of the city's top entertainment destinations for tourists.

With a design inspired by Bangkok's days as a riverside trading post during King Rama V's reign, from 1868-1910, Asiatique resembles a tradional pier with rows of warehouses. Suitably, it's actually on land once owned by the Danish East Asiatic Company and some of the original architecture, over 100 years old, has been retained.

For now it's packed with locals, many of whom can't help but compare it to the dearly departed Suan Lum Night Bazaar. And with good reason. Open from 5 p.m. to midnight, Asiatique has some of the same shops that were at the Night Bazaar, and the traditional Joe Louis Puppet Theater and Calypso -- the famed ladyboy cabaret -- will be moving in next month.

But that's where the similarities end. Asiatique is far more contrived than the gritty night bazaar, which closed in early 2011 after its lease expired.

The upside is that Asiatique infuses a huge shot of action into the stale Chao Phraya River, which in recent years has become little more than a destination for dinner cruises, five-star hotel guests or an occasional seafood dinner.

Asiatique has four zones, filled with shops, bars, restaurants and even a couple spas. (Keep in mind a few of the dining venues aren't set to open till June.)

One of the zones, Chaoroenkrung District, has 1,000 shops and an entertainment theater. In the Factory and Waterfront districts, set back closer to the river, are a mixture of upscale bistro-style restaurants, an Irish pub and a wine bar, serving Thai, Japanese, French and Italian.

The Town Square has a beer garden and outdoor activity square covering an area of over 2,000 square meters.

If you can, avoid taking a taxi to get there. Traffic is jammed on Charoenkrung Road nightly, with locals all keen to check out the new attraction. The best way to get there is to hop on the free shuttle boat that runs regularly from the BTS Thaksin pier.

Asiatique
2194 Charoenkrung 72-74 Road, Bangkok
Open daily, 5 p.m. to midnight
I was curious from some of the long time regulars, what changes have you noticed, good, bad, indifferent?
And have there been any new must go, must visit places since then?

This morning I had the misfortune to be in the same room as a TV with some Thai serial abomination. It suddenly hit me why there is little or no respect for Thai Police. It is because Thai serials have no respect.

In every scene this team of Police was shown to be totally stupid and useless. Grinning, fumbling clowns. If Thai TV shows no respect how do we expect Thais to show respect. And conversely, if treated poorly, how do you expect the Police themselves to act.

If TV portrayed Police that way "back home" there would be a huge stink. The TV channels just wouldn't be permitted to do it. So why here ? I just don't understand how they get away it. Maybe, after the PM is finished having photos taken in markets, she suggest the Minister in Charge of Police not only "look into it" but actually do something.

Man suspected of burglary and sexual assault of 5 year old pet dog in East Pattaya

A 34 year old man is behind bars at this time accused of a house burglary and the sexual assault of the house owners 5 year old dog.

This bizarre case was dealt with by Police Stationed at the Nongprue Police Sub-Station in East Pattaya and led to the arrest of Khun Chanwoot, a labourer working at a construction site next to the house who was caught inside the bedroom by the returning house owner, Khun Wongduan aged 46 on Friday afternoon.

The semi-naked man was wearing only a sarong around his waist and was carrying a number of her valuable items which he claimed not to have stolen but was simply protecting the items until she returned.

As she opened the door to the bedroom her 5 year old dog called “Gaew”, ran out yelping and injuries to her genital region were seen as well as evidence of Khun Chanwoot’s semen inside the dog’s vagina.

Khun Chanwoot denies allegations of theft and of sexually assaulting the dog despite the evidence presented to Police.

He remains behind bars pending a Court appearance.

In a few weeks I will be visiting Bangkok and Pattaya with my wife. She is really cool about this stuff, so I expect to get in some playtime for old times sake. How about the bar girls? Do they completely avoid you when you are with another woman? Are there any places that are ideal for this? It's been about five years since I last visited

Five hurt in Bangkok steak house gas explosion

BANGKOK, May 9 -- At least five persons were hurt Wednesday in a cooking gas explosion at a steak house in downtown Bangkok’s Soi Rang Nam.

The explosion occurred midday at a four-storey commercial building in Soi Rang Nam near the Victory Monument and Sri Ayudthya School when a mechanic was trying to fix the valve of a 48-kilogramme gas cylinder.

The process to open the valve caused leakage of flammable gas and led to the explosion which completely destroyed the ground floor of the steak house with shattered glass.

The blast also injured five people including staff and customers. One person was severely injured while four others suffered with minor injuries caused by broken glass.

The other casualties were transferred to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, police investigators of Phaya Thai police station initially presumed that the explosion was an error, occurring when gas valve was opened. An investigation is underway and police have not filed charges against anyone.

Ratchathewi district authorities reopened the road and footpath in front of the restaurant after the flames were brought under control and the situation returned to normal.

Ratchathewi district officer Laksan Rojthamrong said after inspecting the scene that the fire, which did not spread to the nearby buildings, would not impact the structure of the building overall and that there was no need to declare the area off-limits

According to the agency, this “rare opportunity” starts from May 19.
“She is a virgin, you can tell,” the Brisbane times quoted a spokeswoman as telling a major newspaper.

“She goes to your place or hotel and you can spend two days together. She does not have a boyfriend and she wants to do it for the money,” she said.

The escort agency recruits mostly Asian women aged 18 to 25 and suggests to potential workers they can make easy cash.

The website written in English and Chinese suggests working for the agency “to solve your financial problem within short time”.

“Want to earn tuition fee? Reduce your family financial burden? Want to buy luxury brand like Louis Vuitton, etc? Please contact us immediately!! We will tailor a work plan to help you resolve your financial problem within short time!!” it says.

The agency’s website has photos of the girl but her face is obscured.

Women’s advocate Melinda Tankard Reist said the virginity sale and promotion of luxury goods as a cause to work for exposed the brothel’s lack of ethics.

“If the woman is in financial need then the brothel is a vulture preying on her financial desperation,” she said.

“Are they putting the girl’s interests first or profiting from her and don’t care about what happens the night she loses her virginity?

“No woman should have to sell her body for education. Has anyone asked why she needs the money? If she is a schoolgirl, is the school involved? Shouldn’t teachers or staff look at her situation and help find a better way?” she said.

Tankard Reist also questioned what sort of man was attracted to this proposition.

“This raises a lot of questions. Why would someone want to pay to take a girl’s virginity?” she said.

Leading Feminist Eva Cox, said it was a “very crappy” situation for all involved.

“Something is wrong in society to encourage this sort of behaviour but this prurient interest about a financial transaction is also a worry.

“I think sex work itself is a perfectly legitimate occupation but I just don’t think this is a good way to start one’s sex life,” she said.

Feminist social commentator, Nina Funnell, said there was a double standard when it came to male and female virginity.

“As a society we still fetishise female virginity by artificially binding it to notions of purity and, in doing so, ascribe a sort of moral character and value to the female hymen. A man who would pay this amount has bought into this and is reaffirming the importance of that perceived purity by assigning a market value to it,” she said.

“Moral crusaders intent on banning sex work will also respond to this with unusual levels of zeal,” she added.

Reservoirs in Prachuap Khiri Khan at 30% Capacity

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: -- Due the severe drought currently experienced in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, the reservoirs in the province are now at only 30 percent of their capacity.

An irrigation official in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province has reported that six districts in the province, namely Muang, Pranburi, Hua Hin, Sam Roi Yot, Kuiburi and Bang Saphan Noi have been declared drought disaster zones for the third consecutive year.

All of the six reservoirs in the province are at the average of about 30 percent of their capacity.

The situation is critical at Pranburi Dam where there are about 86 million cubic meter of water left in the reservoir or only about 24 percent of its full capacity.

Normally, the reservoir holds about 347 million cubic meter water.

The water supply is therefore enough for household usage but not enough for farming.

The local population and farmers in the province are strongly advised to use water efficiently to conserve the current low supply.

Hi All

The MEGA BANGNA shopping mall opened in Bang Na last week and I decided to take my daughter for a walk around yesterday , just to see what they have.
My first impression is that it is quite big and has all the boutique shops , as well as a Robinsons , Tops , and a nice area outside , sort of a canal walk , without the canal with restaurants on either side.
There is a Bangkok Burger , but that wasnt open yet , so we went into Scoozi's . Its an italian and they have a proper wood fired oven , and a nice selection of wines , mostly red.
I had a T-bone steak and my daughter had a pasta , both of which were ok. Their prices are pretty good , maybe a little on the cheap side.
The shopping centre also boasts a cine complex , a bowling centre as well as an ice rink.

Mega BangNa is part of the IKEA complex and is about 10 minutes from the CENTRAL Bang Na towards Pataya on the Bang Na Trat road.

Three billboard installers died when they fell from a suspended platform at the 69th floor of Baiyoke Tower II, Thailand’s tallest building, in Ratchathewi district of Bangkok on Monday.

Reports said five workers were standing on the platform installing new printed advertising material on the exterior of the 89-storey highrise building when the accident occurred.

A cable supporting part of platform broke shortly after 2pm. The platform dropped sharply at an angle and three of the workers fell off, plunging to their death.

The bodies of the victims, who were not immediately identified, were found on a 36th floor balcony, beside a swimming pool on the 20th floor and on an outside mini-golf driving range on the 18th floor.

The two other workers managed to grab a handhold on the platform.

hi. my first post here.

it's been a 3 years since i been to bangkok, but i used to frequent bangkok and phuket.

i am looking for the best high quality massage with good atmosphere and good looking girls .. as far as P4P goes, hand job is plenty for me after a 2 hour massage.. full service can be had anywhere so i am a bit jaded to that.

I used to go to this place on sukumvit near the korean plaza, but not sure if it's still there and price has gone up a bit in that place.

any recommendations?

The cable TV had all the international channels. From the balcony, we could see the outdoor swimming pool, which is well maintained and clean. The hotel location is very convenient with stores, restaurants, massage spas & bars close by.

I am spending a few days on Koh Samui with my family, one of my favorite tropical islands. The place has everything: from unspoiled beaches and endless coconut plantations, to high-end dining and a good night life. Although I was here mainly for business related reasons I had a great time.

This morning I drove from our villa to the French bakery to buy a baguette for breakfast and then wanted to get gas, when I realized I did not bring enough cash. So I stopped at an ATM (every 7-11 and Family Mart has an ATM here, meaning that you are never more than a few hundred meters away from one) to get some more Thai Baht. In Thailand you normally first get your receipt, then your money and only then your bank card. Not smart, because people may forget their cards after taking their money, but that’s a different story.

Anyway, I got my receipt and money and was waiting for my card to come out. After waiting for about 10 seconds the card still did not come out, and I got a bit worried that my card may have been lost. But that was not the case, because when I looked at the ATM screen I saw and ad with the question whether I liked the advertising or not. Only after clicking that I would get my card back!

I have seen a lot of ATMs all over the world, and many of them have advertising on it. Either before you start, during the transaction or you get your money. But this is the first time that I was asked to let the bank know whether I liked the ad before getting back my card! An innovative idea, but I hope China won’t start copying this.

PATTAYA – April 30, 2012 [PDN]; Pol.Maj.Col. Kowit Wawatmongkol Pattaya police station Chonburi, arrested Mr.Chantakarn Somparndee a 19-years-old transgender from 101/3 moo 12 ,tambon Pongtao, Lampang, and her transgender friend.

A group of Pattaya transgender's while selling their services to tourists pretended to smooch or hug a little at the same time they stole a tourist's wallet.

The police arrested and brought them in for interrogation concerning pickpocketing Mr. Daryl Chin’s a 31-years-old Singaporean on the Walking Street, South Pattaya.

Mr.Chin, the victim, said that he was a journalist from Singapore on holiday in Pattaya. Before the incident he and his friend were in a pub on the walking street.

When they left the pub and walked out on the street they ran into ten trans women, standing there, like waiting to sell themselves. They came to smooch and hug him, but he and his friend didn’t pay attention and tried to walk away.

Suddenly he noticed that his wallet had been pick pocketed. He tried to get it back but the transgender’s were sending his wallet from one to another and they got away.

Mr. Chin and his friend managed to catch two of them: Mr.Chantakarn, the transgender and his friend. They took the duo to the police station.

The police questioned Mr.Chantakarn, and his friend, they said they were just scapegoats but the police was not convinced, because there was a witness, a motorbike rider.

Later Mr.Chantakarn agreed that she would call her Lao transgender friend who ran away with the wallet. Mr.Chantakarn would bring back the wallet to the owner provided the victim and the police would drop the charges.

The S’porean’s wallet was returned but 4,000 THB and a credit card was missing, however he did not press charges.

The police checked the criminal records of the two trannies and let them go.
TAK, May 2 – Thai nationals are advised against crossing the Myanmar border at Tak's Phop Phra district as their safety is uncertain after the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) threatened to retaliate unless the Thai authorities removes its leader's name from Thailand's list of drug traffickers, the Tak governor said on Wednesday.

Governor Suriya Prasartbundit made his warning after the DKBA earlier issued a statement defending its commander-in-chief General Saw Ler Pwe, commonly known as Na Khan Mwe, who was listed by the Thai Narcotics Control Board on its list of 25 most-wanted drug traffickers.

In response to the latest DKBA move, Gov Suriya said he instructed authorities in Phop Phra district to warn residents on the Thai-Myanmar border--especially in four villages located just opposite DKBA-influenced areas--not to cross the boundary.

The governor said the warning came as Gen Saw Ler Pwe barred Thai residents and traders from entering its areas and that their safety could not be guaranteed.

A Thai News Agency reporter said that situation along the Thai-Myanmar border was normal this morning with some Karen and Myanmar residents continuing to cross the border to buy some goods in Thai territory amid tight security provided by Thai troops.

Karen News earlier quoted DKBA spokesman Capt Saw Ko Myo as saying that General Saw Ler Pwe was furious with the allegations of the Thai government.

He said the "accusations hurt not only the personal image of DKBA leader, but also smeared the DKBA and Burma."

Thai Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubumrung is invited to investigate at any of the DKBA bases and they are willing to go to any court or stand trial if they are found guilty, the DKBA statement said.

"If the Thai government does not solve the problem to our satisfaction, we will sue it according to international law," the statement said. (MCOT online news)
Pattaya has been selected as the official role model for other resort destinations in Thailand, according to the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

The five-star Hilton Hotel reflects the new Pattaya

With a focus on MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions), Akapol Sorasuchart, outgoing president of TCEB, praised Pattaya as a resort leader for others to follow, having introduced many routes for international and domestic corporations, destination management companies and professional convention organisers.
Pattaya and Chonburi were identified offering six distinct types of activity ranging from adventure tourism to luxury tourism products.
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome reflected on the city’s long history of attracting tourists and holiday makers, but pointed that Pattaya now is interested in attracting more business travelers, especially as their spending profile tended to be about 25 percent higher.
Easily accessible from Bangkok, less than 100 miles away by high-speed motorway, Pattaya now boasts almost 400 international-standard hotels with a combined total of 30,000 rooms. The Hilton Hotel, housed in the up-market shopping mall Central Festival Pattaya Beach, has been particularly successful in the MICE market with its state-of-the-art conference facilities for 700 people.
Other major conference facilities are featured at the Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel, the Eastern National Sports Training Centre and the Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall (PEACH) at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort.
Panga Vathanakul, managing director of the Royal Cliff, said 100 million baht has been set aside for major renovation of the lobby and restaurant and for a new children’s club–all in a bid to attract family clientele as well as MICE travellers. Other hotels are investing heavily in energy-saving and environmentally-friendly initiatives to lessen the impact of the carbon footprint.
Using Pattaya as the pioneering basis, resorts such as Chiang Mai and Phuket will be encouraged to develop applications for penetrating new markets, corporate organizations and international companies.
The accolade by the Conventions Bureau for Pattaya to be a model city for entrepreneurialism is the latest in a series of awards and recognition of the city’s transformation into a multi-faceted resort no longer wholly dependent on nightclubs and raucous entertainment. Last year, Pattaya and Chonburi-area golf facilities were acclaimed to be the finest in Asia by a prestigious Australian operator. Pattaya is the site of world-class golf and tennis championships. And local music festivals now attract an international crowd of devotees.

Is it also a role model for MAFIA, PROSTITUTION, SCAMS etc?

In Thailand, Killings of Lesbians Go Unpunished

Image: http://dingo.care2.com/pictures/causes/2935/2934951.large.jpg

Back in December, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights...

Back in December, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights published a landmark report identifying that violence against LGBT people “tends to be especially vicious compared to other bias-motivated crimes.” It said that states have an “obligation to exercise due diligence” to investigate and prosecute such crimes.

Thailand is a country often assumed to be LGBT friendly because of the tolerance that is part of Thai Buddhism, but human rights advocates are protesting a pattern of killings of lesbians and ‘tomboys.’ ‘Tom’ is a specifically Thai gender identity where lesbian women dress, act and speak in a masculine fashion.

Most of the killings have been dismissed by police as “love gone sour” or the fault of the victims.

They have verified information in 15 murder cases over the last few years, the youngest of whom was 17. In addition to being stabbed multiple times, suffocated, strangled, or shot to death, many of the lesbians and toms had also been raped. In two cases of double homicides, lesbian couples were killed by men who objected to their relationship and felt rebuffed when their attempts at coercing one partner into a heterosexual relationship failed.

24-year-old Nurisan Chedurame was described as a tomboy by those who knew her and in the media. Last December, she was found dead near her village’s garbage dump with her head smashed in. A three-inch club was found at the crime scene. Relatives said that Nurisan had not returned from being out with friends the night before. Thai media quote police as suspecting she was killed because “she was involved with women.”

Also in December, the body of 25-year-old tomboy Kanchana Changkwian was found two months after she went missing. In that case, police speculated that she had been raped and murdered “for becoming involved with a married woman.”

In another case from last year a ‘tom’ (who is not named in reports) was murdered by her girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend. Parents and relatives of the girlfriend (also not named) had opposed the relationship, and despite threats against the tom, had failed to stop the couple from continuing to see each other. The mother of the girlfriend engineered the murder of the tom and promised to marry off her daughter to the ex-boyfriend who committed the murder.

Most of the verified cases have not been properly investigated because of a failure to recognize possible hate crime motives.

Said Grace Poore, of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC):

“The killing and rapes of lesbians and toms represents a callous disregard for humanity. The failure of the Thai government to prevent or properly investigate these killings are not only appalling, they are evidence of poor governance and blatant violation of international human rights law.”

IGLHRC and Human Rights Watch (HRW) have written to the Thai government demanding that this pattern of killings be investigated. The letter also makes a series of recommendations that authorities work with local human rights groups to ensure that LGBT people enjoy the protections they have under Thai law and that they educate both law enforcement and the Thai public about those protections.

Thailand has signed a number of international treaties that guarantee respect for human rights, and it was one of the countries which supported the process at the United Nations, led by South Africa, which has resulted in the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ report.
Pattaya young men face-off on the last day of Pattaya International Music Festival 2012. A young man dies. Shot through the heart.

PATTAYA – April 30, 2012 [PDN]; Pol. Lt. Col. Prasit Munsri, Pattaya police station, was notified about a teenage gang shoot-out with one person fatally wounded.

The shooting occurred at the side walk near the beach of Laem Balihai in the vicinity of the sea rescue center Pattaya Moo 10, Banglamung.

At the scene of the killing the police found a pool of blood on the side walk by the sea. A group of teenagers, the victims were waiting nearby. The young men said they were drinking alcohol on the side walk after after that they were going to Pattaya International Music Festival.

Suddenly 3 teenagers riding 2 motorbikes arrived and parked their bikes. One took out a pistol, fired and rode off.

The bullet hit Mr. Karn Somyos or “Tee” age 23 (a clerk at a well known hotel in Pattaya) Mr. Karn’s address: 3/111 Moo 11 Nong Preu, Banglamung. “Tee” was severely wounded and brought by his friends to Pattaya Memorial hospital in a pickup truck.

Later the police inspected at the area of the shooting while the doctors were trying to save Mr. Karn’s or “Tee’s” life in the emergency room.

The doctor said had been shot through the heart. The bullet entered the left ribcage and penetrated the heart. Mr. “Tee” died monuments later.

Later, his parents, relatives and friends came to see the corpse and were struck by grief.

Upon investigation Mr. Veeraphan Somyos or “Boy” age 20, the younger brother of Mr. “Tee” said that before the shooting occurred he and his elder brother and friends both male and female were drinking whisky at the place of the shooting after a long time he was persuaded by his elder brother to go back home but his elder brother wanted to continue to drink and talk.

Later the younger brother returned home. On the way riding his bike he passed a gang of teenagers who scolded him. But he didn’t say anything. The teenage gang scolded him again. Now he stared at their faces, then hurried back to his elder brother. He was afraid there would be a fight.

Moments later 3 teenagers rode 2 motorbikes and parked them where Mr. “Tee” was sitting. One of the three teenagers took out pistol to and fired and escaped.

Mr. Veeraphan or “Boy” confirmed that he and his elder brother and friends never had a quarrel or a fight with the teenage gang before.

The cause of the fatal shooting could be that the come teenage felt intimidated when the younger brother ” Boy” he rode passed them and looked looked at their faces. Probably that made furious so they pistol and shot Mr ” Tee” the elder brother.

Pol. Col. Thammanoon Munkong, Superintendent, Pattaya police station commanded Pol. Lt. Col. Suphachai Phuikaewkam, Deputy Superintendent to mobilise a police team to find, investigate and interrogate the suspects. The CCTV footage at the scene of the shooting will be viewed in order to arrest the shooter

The police officer is sure that they will be able to arrest the suspect and his accomplices and let them face the justice accordingly soonest possible.
