After Immigration a visit to the money exchange booth, collect the checked bag (roller board), then off to try the rail link.

Follow the signs to the station.

    Down, down, down....

Coins or Bills, English or Thai - The ticket machines are awesome!

    Down, down, down....

    Finally at the Loading station

End of the line. Time to transfer onto the BTS.

45 Baht fare (Airport to Phaya Thai Station)

30 minutes later Phaya Thai Station

Overall, the rail link was clean, efficient and easy to use. I would advise against trying to use the service with anything larger than a roller board bag, as trying to carry a large suitcase or two up or down flights of stairs would be a pain. I was tired of doing it with just my roller board.

If you do use the rail link make sure you take the express train rather then the city line.
The seats are more comfy plus you will have a bit of room as the city line is used by Thais to commute.

I have a large bag but I am weighing that against the possible traffic I might face on a Friday afternoon. What is worse Friday PM traffic or carrying a 50 lb bag up and down stairs from the train. Any Thoughts?

Had some rain the other day that makes the traffic situation even worse, really depends on where you are staying.
If i had to chose between a 2 hour taxi journey or 15 minutes in a train with a heavy bag i would take the train.

Don't take the express train to Phaya Thai station but the one to Makkasan station. Then walk to the MRT station Petchaburi which is about 100m south of Makkasan and just one station later you will be at Asoke/Sukhumvit. Way faster than via Phaya Thai station. I only use a taxi nowadays when I arrive at the airport after 8pm due to the longer delays between the trains.

The express train during rush hour in Bangkok, which lately seems to be all the time, is the quickest way to get into the city. I usually arrive on an afternoon flight and make the train by 4:30pm. And by 5PM I am at home. For rush hour time in BKK, this ain't so bad and worth the few extra hassles of train travel versus front door taxi service.

    Hello,

I will land Bangkok around 8pm local time on a Sunday. I am debating wether just use the taxi to Nana but I thought, based on what I've seen in my previous trips, traffic in sukhumvit looks horrible during night time. Would it better if I just use the train? Which rail I should use? City or express? I've never use it before. I am looking for a quicker way to Nana at nightime.
