I plan to be in Bangkok and Pattaya in December, and recently realized I will be there during the king's birthday, will the bars be closed around his birthday?

How sick is he? How old? I hadn't really thought about an event like that. Mostly worrid about airport closers (like last year).

More importantly, today is/was Makha Bucha Day, a Thai religious holy-day. Most of the Sukhumvit p4p entertainment was closed, places like the SC, NEP, Beergarden Soi 7, Thermae etc. Hillary II in Si 4 was open but further dowm the road Hillary I was shut. Go figure. About half the places down Soi Bladerunner were also closed. I saw lots of lonely & lost looking farangs about, because they had a hard time to find a woman or a beer.

On the up side as I drove past Snow White around 11:45 pm, I noticed that it was open for business as usual. I had a little chuckle at the thought of the girls banging away for their supper. Soi 24/1 was closed down as far as I could see.

Be prepared for things like this to happen on some public holidays, election days, royal birthdays etc.

    Hi Everyone,
firstly thanks for the very informative posts on this website. I am travelling to Bangkok couple of days before Songkran festivel and am wondering if i should stay further for the 2-3 days of the festivel.

I want to ask if the good massage parlours like Annies, Tulips, Snow white etc would be opened during the evening and night? Secondly does the water festivities continue in the night as well? What about the sex districts in Bangkok (Nana etc) and Pattaya (walking street), are they open in the night; shows, freelancers etc.

Would appreciate if i can get some quick replies since i need to arrange my return travel accordingly.

    Regards,
    Zain

If you've never experienced Songkran in Thailand then I suggest you do, at least once in your life.

Post a question in the Annies thread & see what Aey says. I fully expect the larger places like Annies to stay open through the holidays but the smaller shops like Mango/Snow White etc. to close. Girls just wanna have fun.

Don't worry though, although many girls like to play Songram during the day, a good number of them will be working during the evening/night.

The games usually cease just after sunset, but be prepared for the odd fokker of a farang who doesn't know when to lay down his gun.
