Shangarila Suite - Apartment, Bangkok

Perhap's trying to emulate the opulent Shangri-la hotel on the Chao Phraya River this is up-market apartment complex with upmarket prices.

The security guard is a bit 'unfriendly', that's ok we understand that sense of humour doesn't come with the territory. CCTV and keyless entry is evident and we had to be buzzed inside.
The receptionist seemed to belong to the same school-of-thought and was as unfriendly to us as he was.

Not a good start to the review. For us attitude is as important as the facilities on offer. The Shangarila Suite has a slogan 'Living in the Paradise'. So far it seemed less like that.

The reception area is nicely decorated and comfortable, with some nice red furnishings for sitting at and a table.

The Shangarila Suite's have a lift. The corridor was an odd pink colour, another minus. The doors to the apartment room next-door were within inches. So expect noise from the neighbour on this room.

The views from the room were less than pretty. Once set of windows had the bare wall of the next building. The other set was the slight improvement of the BTS station and main road outside. On the top floors this might be better still. Even so the impression for apartment renting was not that great.

The prices are 'ambitious' to say the least.

That being said for yearly contracts a discount was on offer.

Laundry service and Maid service available here. Prices unknown.

Utilities rates are 20 baht per unit (water) & 8 baht per unit (electricity).

WiFi internet charges are ludicrous. For a single month they charge 2,000 baht! Insanity, even for Bangkok prices.

The BTS can take you to the Shangarila Suite via Chong Nonsi station. It's literally at the steps of the BTS.

If you've deep pockets and don't mind the charges or attitude then this place could be for you...

I had lunch at the restaurant recently and it was affordable; 380 baht inclusive of 5% SC for two for dim sum; was told that there is a 25% off the dim sum menu currently though not sure whether applies to weekends as well; while there, there was a table of ten who ordered one of the signature dishes; lobster with noodles for ten at 990 baht

the restaurant has another branch located at Silom and another one in Chinatown
took a look at the "hotel" and it was definitely unfriendly considering access to the lobby requires the use of a keycard; entrance to the carpark was piled with sandbags though not sure whether they have been removed

No, it just sounds like they wanted it to look similar, thereby getting some traffic.
Also I think the name is lucky in Sanskrit so that might of been another reason?

I think the name means paradise in Chinese
