Eastern Bus Terminal, Bangkok
Eastern Bus Terminal, Ekkamai, Bangkok.
The Eastern Bus Terminal also known simply as Ekkamai, is a relatively compact terminal right next to BTS Ekkamai station at Sukhumvit Road (Soi 63). It is one of three major bus terminals in Bangkok. The Eastern Bus Terminal serves destinations in Eastern Thailand, including Pattaya, Rayong, Ko Chang, Chanthaburi, Ban Phe (Ko Samet), Chanthaburi and Trat. You can also get a bus to the Cambodian border crossing at Poipet.
There are fixed routes from Bangkok to the Eastern Seaboard and the Cambodian border. Most of the buses and mini vans are air-conditioned. You can buy tickets inside the bus terminal at various counters depending on your destination.
There are two categories of bus available depending on your budget and required level of comfort, VIP and standard. The VIP service offers a direct service using the motorway without stops to the destination. The standard service does not use the motorway and frequently stops. The fares differ between the two categories and these will be distinguishable at the ticket counters inside the bus terminal.
The simplest way of getting to the Eastern Bus Terminal is via BTS Ekkamai station. After exiting the train walk to the east side of the platform (exit 2) you will see the bus terminal below and a small 7-eleven next to it. Prices are relatively similar for each bus line but there are some differences. In my experience Pattaya VIP Bus is very reliable and efficient to deal with.
The Eastern Bus Terminal is open from 6am until midnight daily. Nearby you can find Major Cineplex Sukhumvit where you can see a selection of the latest movies. A number of Western fast food outlets are also located in Major Cineplex Sukhumvit.
